Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Classroom Workflow on Student Mobile Devices. This module and the others like it have been created to give you a self-paced introduction to a variety of topics related to learning and teaching on mobile devices.

Each module is composed of the following sections:

Overview - description of the main ideas within the module, the driving objectives, and the essential questions

Investigation - curated pathway for learning about your module’s topics complete with explanations, links and ideas for learning

Application & Discussions - You’ll complete a specific activity related to the module topic that asks you to put your learning into action, and a link to posting and sharing your learning for deeper discussion.

Further Investigation - If the initial Investigation was dipping your toe in the learning, this section gives you a chance to dive in, explore things more deeply, and provide yourself with an archive of resources for shifting your practice.

Module Overview

Objective: Teachers will be able to confidentaly shift classroom practices to develop and incorporate a student mobile workflow.  

Essential Questions: 

  • How might these devices alter my expectations for how students conduct their daily learning in class?
  • How can I help students adjust to these changes?
  • How can I find new and up-to-date resources on student workflows with mobile devices? 
  • How can I begin to create and manage a mobile workflow with my students? 

Vocabulary: 

  • News Reader: A program that allows you to save and categories websites.  It then displays the top stories from these sites requiring you only to log into the news reader to view stories from multiple outlets.  
  • Twitter Chats: Enables people to gather on Twitter at a specified time to discuss a certain topic.  Chats are tracked by #hashtags. 
  • Google Drive: A productivity suite created by Google it is know for allowing users to collaborate in various ways.  Some of its features include docs, forms, presentations and spreadsheets.
  • Learning Management System: A computer program that allows users to create a comprehensive online course.  It can be used alone or as an extension of a face-to-face classroom.

Why do I want a digital workflow with my students? 

  • To ease the flow of information between teacher and student
  • To enable students to access class material anywhere and at anytime
  • To provide easy access for absent student to obtain work 
  • To facilitate individualization and meet IEP or 504 needs

  • To ease student workflow and eliminate "Forgotten" homework

General Workflow Resources: 

Google Drive Resources:

  • gClassFolders enables users to run a script from Google Drive that will automatically set up a class handout folder, student turn-in folders and a collaboration folder.  
  • A Google Script that allows users automatically generate and pre-share documents with students.  User and share settings can be customized to allow for a whole class view, individual student view or group view.  
  •  To be used in conjunction with Doctopus.  Goobric allows you to attach a rubric to any assignment.  Teachers can then easily give electronic feedback on their rubrics.  Goobric will notify students when their assignment has been graded.
